Removal services in Somerset, built on local knowledge

Somerset is a county of contrasts, and our crews know them well. The flat Somerset Levels, where access can vanish after a wet winter and the approach road to a rural property bears no resemblance to the postcode on the form. The Georgian terraces of Frome and Wells, where parking is a puzzle and period features mean every staircase is its own negotiation. Market towns like Yeovil and Taunton where moving day collides with market-day traffic if nobody has checked the calendar. Five decades of moves across the South West means we plan for all of this well before the van arrives, not on it.

We cover the whole of Somerset, from the M5 corridor and the Bristol fringe towns of Clevedon and Portishead, right out to Minehead on the coast and Crewkerne in the south. Your move might be across the county, up to London, or halfway across the world. As long as it starts or finishes in Somerset, Devon or Cornwall, we can help.

WHY BRITANNIA LANES

Trusted Somerset removal specialists

Most people move house a handful of times in their lives. We have been doing it for Somerset residents for more than 50 years, and the same family that started the firm still runs it today.

There are two halves to our name, and both matter. Lanes is the family business, now in its third generation: local crews, local knowledge, a name with a track record behind it. Britannia is the national membership the family joined years ago, a network of vetted removal firms held to one shared standard, with trained members and support across the UK, and a shipping office for international moves. So when you choose Britannia Lanes for your Somerset removal, you get a local family who carry out your move themselves, backed by a national body that holds us to one standard. That is the security the name provides.

Somerset Removals FAQs

For a standard Somerset move, six to eight weeks gives us good availability and time to carry out a proper survey. Summer is the busiest period across the whole of the South West, and Fridays between June and September fill up fast. If your exchange date is approaching and you have not yet arranged a survey to get your quote, get in touch sooner rather than later.

Yes, the whole county. Access in rural Somerset can be a real challenge, particularly on the Levels after a wet season and in the lanes around the Mendips and Exmoor. If access is something you are thinking about, mention it when you arrange your survey and our surveyor will factor it in. Poor access is something we plan for, not something we discover on moving day.
Yes. As long as your move starts or finishes in Somerset, Devon or Cornwall, we can help. That includes moves to Scotland, Wales, anywhere across England, and international moves to more than 20,000 destinations. Our own Lanes crews handle domestic long-distance moves at both ends; for international moves, Britannia’s shipping office handles the freight.

Three ways to get a price. The instant price tool online gives you a guide figure in a few minutes. If you want a formal, fixed quote, arrange a survey: our surveyor will walk through your home with you by video, on a filmed phone walkthrough, or in person, and give you a quote based on exactly what needs to move. There are no averages and no surprises.
Our crews can move the full contents of a home, including furniture, packed boxes, appliances and garden items. A small number of things cannot travel on the van or truck: hazardous materials, gas canisters, certain plants and perishables. If you are unsure about a specific item, ask when you arrange your survey and we will advise.

Seamless and professional. Great value
We moved over 400 miles within the UK. Brittania Lanes packed everything up and reassembled furniture at the other end. The service made the move pretty seamless and their communication was consistent, professional and helpful throughout. Getting a quote for the move was very easy and everything was explained very well. And accepting that quote and arranging for the packing, loading and delivery was seamless. They answered all my questions promptly and the MoveProtect insurance policies were very thorough and reasonable - though I didn’t need to claim anything on the insurance because it all arrived safely.

They lightened the load in more ways than one.
Having had a number of deadlines to meet, dates were all important. We had asked a quite companies for quotes, for one reason or another they went by the by but Britannia came good for us. Easy online application, calls from Vicky in the office to arrange things, a visit from Lee who carried out the a most professional, accurate survey and the Lads who turned up and did the business. Luke, Shane and Dan. On the hottest week of the year so far they loaded up with a smile, a good line in banter making a very stressful situation a lot lighter and lifted our spirits. From getting their large truck into our road that is tight for a van they had loaded in no time. A quick shift to the back of the house they cleared the garage, including two motorcycles. Shane took amazing care of everything especially the securing of the motorcycles. The following morning, 370 miles north and there they were. Just Shane and Dan this time but they resumed the banter and got on with the unloading. Considering the temperature these guys were fantastic and we have only praise for them. They added a massive element of fun to the whole process. All our possessions safe and not the slightest thing damaged. To be fair to prospective customers Britannia were the most expensive of all quotes but by the end they were worth every penny. Recommended. Thank you.

Excellent. Efficient, careful and worked well as a team.
The two men on day 1 ( Haydn and Luke?) and three men on day 2 ( Mark, Reece and young Will?) were all fantastic. Very efficient, careful and thoughtful and worked well together as a team. With hindsight, now that we’re unpacking, I think we would have asked them to label in a bit more detail of what was in each box. In ‘Kitchenware’ it’s quite hard to find eg the breadboard, when there are 15 boxes. But maybe that’s just our moving chaos. The men were really great.
