Moving to Australia is the dream for many, although the prospect can be very daunting. Using Britannia Lanes to coordinate your move to the other side of the world will take away the stress. We have over 30 years’ experience of moving customers from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Bristol to Australia.

Removals to Australia

To start the process contact our international team to arrange a surveyor to visit you to discuss all of your moving requirements.

Emigrating to Australia

We will carry out an electronic international survey by walking around your property helping you to decide what you wish to ship. The surveyors will help you to decide if you wish to ship a smaller consignment, known as groupage, or having a 20ft or 40ft container to yourselves. Groupage can be as little as a couple of boxes or a selection of key items of furniture and multiple boxes. Britannia Lanes can export pack your items and take them to the Britannia Movers International depot in Merstham, Surrey for consolidation. This means you only pay for the space used.

If you are looking to move the majority of items from a 2 or 3 bedroom property you would normally need a 20ft shipping container. If you are moving from a 4 or 5 bedroom property it is likely for you to need a 40ft shipping container.

Packing for Australia

We have designated export packing teams who will come to your home to pack all of your items into boxes or packages. For highly valuable or fragile items we may elect to use crates that will be made in our workshops in advance of your move.

Shipping to Australia

Once all of your effects are packed, every item is numbered and listed. If you opt for a sole-use container your effects will normally be loaded into the container at your property.

Australian Container Port

With all of our experience we will help to absorb some of the burden. We know exactly what paperwork and visas are required. Once your container arrives at the designated port it will be loaded onto one of the shipping lines. Door-to-door with a full container load (FCL) will normally take between 8 to 13 weeks. A groupage consignment (LCL) will normally take 10 to 14 weeks, although timings given are not guaranteed.

Arriving in Australia Consignments of household effects that have been owned for more than 12 months can be shipped into Australia duty free. Household items are generally subject to a physical inspection upon arrival to ensure they are not carrying any quarantine risk material. Following a physical inspection, it may be determined that some items may require treatment such as fumigation before they are released for entry. In a worst case scenario some items may even be destroyed or ordered to be re-exported. The charges for fumigation or re-export are not included in our quotation. Once your shipment has been cleared by customs our overseas agents will arrange delivery of all door-to-door shipments.
