Britannia Lanes of Somerset late summer review1st November 2011
The last few Months have been busy for all of us here at the family business that is Britannia Lanes. The New Season has kicked off for Bridgwater and Albion Rugby football club and whilst the start has wavered a little Britannia Lanes are proud to continue their sponsorship of the club which includes a 20 foot shipping container to safeguard equipment.
In the middle of October Bristols Zoo’s WOW Gorilla project came to an end with the auction in Bristol and the delivery of all of the painted Gorillas that had been sited around the city. As part of our sponsorship we stored all of the gorillas for over 6 months prior to placement, supplied selfDRIVE vans to the zoo during the project and helped arrange the delivery of most of them in and around Bristol area and to other destinations as far afield as London and Kent.
Our own “Alfred: Still life” achieved the second highest amount on the evening of the auction at £12,000 being topped only by Gorisambard which went for a whopping £23,000. Congratulation to Bristol Zoo and Wallace and Gromits Grand appeal which managed to raised £427,000 for the 2 charities.
Maria Russell said “This was a great thing to be involved in and the logistics of ‘caring’ for 60 gorillas and arranging the delivery of what has turned out to be so many valuable pieces was interesting and varied. The delivery Teams loved this as it was a change from their normal duties”.
On the 15th of October we held an Interior design day with TV’s interior design guru Naomi Cleaver for our competition winners at Coombe House near Honiton. The winners were chosen from clients that had used our services during July, August and September and our local winner was Clayton Jane of Jane & Partners estate Agents in Bridgwater.
October also saw the completion of the movement of the full size Concert Grand Piano for the Two Moors Festival. The move was handled by Britannia Lanes specialist team who overcame the usual issues encountered when moving an £80,000 piano in the middle of the night from one Church concert venue to another.
Angus Russell said “The challenge of arranging the move of a valuable, highly polished piano weighing in at over half a ton at specific times of the day and night with restricted access for vehicles and ensuring concerts could go ahead was a lot of fun and made easier by the fact that we have moved this piano for the last 3 years”. As we look forward to Carnival in Bridgwater and other towns this month look out for the HEART FM Angels taking photos, as the cards handed out by them will ensure the recipient is entitled to either a free moving kit when hiring a SelfDRIVE vehicle or a free HomeSHRED secure shredding bag.
Maria Russell at Britannia Lanes said “We are always please to give something back to the community despite things being tough”
