Lands End to Newcastle21st May 2012
Mark Lane, Alan Bennett and David Bray complete their journey cycling from Lands End to Newcastle in 5 days as planned.
Full support was given by Mark's wife Julie Lane who drove the motorhome the over 506 mile route. In the lead up to the event Julie took a driving course with Cornwall Transport Training in the 8m motorhome as previously she had only driven it when Mark had been in the passenger seat. Julie said this is as much of a challenge to drive and navigate to her as it was for the cyclist. By the end of the journey Julie had been given the title Angel of the North.
On the first day they were joined by One All Cycling Academy who rode the first 50 miles with them. The trio reported that they had noticed once they got to the first hills on Bodmin Moor which were covered in dark clouds the Academy riders turned tail and headed home. Day 1 finished at Crediton. For more information on the following days see further postings. Mark raised £2,720.00 in addition to the money sponsored by Britannia Lanes for the Academy and Alan raised a similar amount for his charity. Mark would like to thank all that generously donated.
