Truro Removals

Over the past forty years the Truro depot has expanded and now has a removal team of 22. Larry is the storage manger at the Truro depot. He started with us in 1984 as one of the long distance crews and then in 2003 took on the role as the container storage manager at the Truro depot. He has been with the company thirty four years and in his current position for fifteen years.

We have several father and son teams and brothers. Gary Hawkey is the father of Jack and brother of Jason and all live in the Truro area. Gary and Jason head our packing and Export packing teams and will travel throughout Cornwall and Plymouth to carry out a pre move packing service. Jack started his career with us straight from Richard Lander school in Truro. His apprenticeship started with the local Truro crews and currently he works with the long distance crews and is looking to get his LGV license in the next year or two.

Another family group are the Coopers. Nigel and his two sons Ben and Ollie. They commute to Truro from Newquay. This is the third time Nigel has worked for Britannia Lanes. Previously he worked as the manager for a local removal company in Bodmin and then started his own removal company in Newquay. Nigel had a spell at the Pickfords branch in Truro and Christophers Removals Newquay before returning to us at Britannia Lanes of Truro, Cornwall. Nigel hold a LGV licence and after some additional training at Cornwall Transport Training based in Truro he now heads one of our long distance crews driving the roadtrain. Ben joined us in 2014 and in his second year took his class 2 and class 1 licences. Ben heads one of the long distance vans driving one of the artics. Ollie joined us this year and is being trained by his father.

Phil Harris, son of Shane Harris who is one of the surveyors also commutes to Truro from Newquay. This is the second time Phil has worked for Britannia Lanes of Truro Cornwall. Phil relocated to Hull to be closer to family, but the pull of Cornwall was too strong and after a period of a couple of years he was back at the Truro depot. There is always a position at Britannia Lanes of Cornwall for a top quality removal operative, such as Phil. Phil has a dual role within the company, he is the head of one of our long distance crews and drives one of the Truro based artics. He also works in the Truro office offing cover on a number of different roles which include records management, self storage and self drive.

Another great long distance team is Matt and Jamie. Both of these guys left our company to do other things. Matt joined a local haulage company in Truro carrying out deliveries to St Austell, Bodmin and Plymouth. This position was very repetitive so Matt was soon looking to rejoin the team in the Truro depot. Another team member that will always have a job waiting for him at Britannia Lanes of Cornwall is Matt's (removal) partner Jamie. Jamie left Britannia Lanes removals to become the manager of Cornwall Country Supplies in Chacewater, Truro. After a couple of years and a quick call to the Truro office Jamie was back where he belongs at Britannia Lanes of Cornwall. Jamie also helps out in our records management team.

Alex Keen commutes to the Truro depot from Camborne. He joined the company in 2012 and quickly became an integral part of the team. He quickly passed both his class 2 and class 1 licences. He is an all-rounder; working as part of the local crews and covering holiday from the long distance team.

Rob commutes to Truro from Hayle. He joined the team in 2016 to bolster the local crews. He is looking to take his LHV in the near future.

Shane lives in the Truro area and joined us in 2015, previously working for Dairy Crest collecting milk for the west of Cornwall and particularly from farms in Penzance, Helston, St Ives, Camborne and Redruth delivering to their headquarters in Davidstow, Camleford. Shane drives our smaller LGV vehicles that are ideal for the Cornish lanes.

Tom has just joined us as a full time employee. He came to us as a part time porter through the Truro office of Smith and Reed.

Gavin worked for a removal company in London for several years before he relocated to Cornwall in 2015 and joined Britannia Lanes of Cornwall. Gavin first worked with the local crews although recently moved to the long distance crews.

Karl is another team member with red, white and blue running through his veins, with 32 years of service. He started in 1986 on one of the local crews. In 1992 he helped Rob Lane start the new depot in Exeter. In 1994 he returned to carry out long distance removals from the Truro depot. In 2003 Karl became the maintenance manager for Britannia Lanes of Truro. From cleaning the building to pruning the trees to specialist crate-making, he keeps the Truro depot spick and span and every removal company needs a Karl.
